A typical DMX512 universe offers 512 channel slots, addressed 1 through 512. Each fixture consumes the number of slots associated with its selected mode. A 16-channel fixture needs sixteen consecutive addresses; that fixture cannot simply be split across two independent universes with this patching method.
Choose quantity, channel mode and the first universe/address. The patch engine assigns contiguous nonoverlapping address ranges and starts a new universe whenever the next whole fixture will not fit in the current one. It exposes the unused tail capacity and provides a CSV patch with one row per fixture for use in a lighting console spreadsheet.
Universe numbering conventions can differ between consoles, nodes, Art-Net implementations, and sACN workflows. Confirm whether the destination equipment labels universes starting at zero or one. Network transport, merge policies, fixture personalities, RDM, and termination are separate system-design tasks. Do not assume that a fixture displaying the expected channel numbers will respond correctly until the full patch is verified.
A full fixture channel block may not fit in the remaining address space.
No. This creates a sequential DMX fixture patch; map its universe numbers to your control network separately.
